Bassoon professor Luciano Magnanini plans to retire from teaching in May, and Festival Miami celebrates his storied career with an inspiring chamber music concert titled affectionately, Luciano and Friends. The program features Camille Saint-Saëns’s Sonata for bassoon and piano; Ludwig van Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds; Francis Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Wind Quintet; Bill Douglas’s Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano; Ástor Piazzolla’s Tango for flute, bassoon and piano; and the premiere of Stephen Guerra’s Sights and Sounds for woodwind quintet, alto saxophone, and piano.

Festival Miami, the annual music festival that opens the South Florida arts season, provides superior and diverse musical programming each year, while expanding academic opportunities and cultural enrichment to all of South Florida and its visitors. It’s a musical experience no one should miss.

The goal of Festival Miami is to uphold and enhance the Mission Statement of the Frost School of Music by offering opportunities for music enjoyment and personal enrichment to as many residents and visitors of South Florida as possible. As such, Festival Miami strives to provide innovative programming that reaches across the cultural boundaries of the South Florida community.
