Melanie

Performing at Broward Center for the Performing Arts / Au-Rene Theater (Feb 21 - Feb 21)

Synopsis

When she stepped onto the stage at Woodstock in the summer of '69, the gifted singer-songwriter known simply as Melanie became a star, launching a legendary career that has spanned more than 40 years. She is best known for her hits "Brand New Key", "Ruby Tuesday", "What Have They Done To My Song Ma" and "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)".

With guitar in hand and a talent that combined amazing vocal equipment, disarming humor, and a vibrant engagement with life, Melanie was booked as the first solo pop/rock artist ever to appear at Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, the Sydney Opera House, and the General Assembly of the United Nations, where she was invited to perform on many occasions as delegates greeted her performances with standing ovation.

Melanie was named the top female vocalist of the year by Billboard in 1972. She has sold more than 80 million records, won a GRAMMY and an Emmy award, and continues to be an enduring force in the music world. "Melanie's cult has long been famous," wrote John Rockwell in The New York Times, "but it's a cult that's responding to something genuine and powerful -- this writer counts himself as part of the cult too."

Melanie performs in concert, for one night only.
