Performing at The Delray Beach Chorale/Duncan Theatre (Apr 12 - Apr 12)
Runtime: 2 Hours
The Delray Beach Chorale will present “Bernstein and Sondheim in Concert” at 7:30pm on Friday, April 12 at the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth and at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Delray Beach. These performances will feature the renowned 60-voice Chorale accompanied by an instrumental ensemble and five professional “artist-in-residence” soloists. The ensemble will perform songs by two of America’s best known composers, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, with selections from the Broadway shows Company, Sweeney Todd, Follies, A Little Night Music, West Side Story, and Candide, among others, as well as music from Bernstein’s renowned “Chichester Psalms” – which will be performed Hebrew.
The Delray Beach Chorale has been performing choral music in the South Palm Beach County area since 1982. At that time, a number of Delray Beach residents, determined to organize a South Palm Beach County community chorus in order to perform choral masterpieces at the highest artistic level, established the Delray Beach Chorale. The Delray Beach Chorale, now in its 31st season, attracts qualified and dedicated volunteer singers with solid musical backgrounds and draws its soloists from the wealth of talented professional singers in South Florida, and has, from its earliest years of operation, performed with an orchestral ensemble consisting mostly of principal players from the former Florida Philharmonic. The Chorale has approximately 50 members and performs two major programs a year – winter and spring.
The Delray Beach Chorale’s mission is to promote and encourage the art of singing and to share the experience of great music with the community.
