Performing at Jerry Herman Ring Theatre at the University of Miami (Apr 10 - Apr 27)
One of Broadway's most cherished musicals and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950, South Pacific revolves around two parallel love stories threatened by the cruelties of prejudice and the dangers of World War II. Set on a Navy base on a tropical island, South Pacific features a delightfully innocent nurse named Nellie Forbush whos falls in love with a wealthy French plantation owner, Emile De Becque. The other story is about handsome Marine Lt. Joseph Cable and Liat, an alluring native girl. At times both comic and touching, South Pacific has been dazzling and moving audiences since its stunning Broadway debut in 1949. Rodgers and Hammerstein's unforgettable music and lyrics feature numerous musical theatre classics — “I’m In Love With a Wonderful Guy,” “Younger Than Springtime,” “Happy Talk,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame,” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair.” South Pacific is an enduring musical from Broadway’s Golden Age and is a terrific ending for our 2012-13 Season.
