Performing at Seraphic Fire-All Saints Episcopal Church (Feb 14 - Feb 14)
Herald trumpets proclaim exuberance and joy, while luscious and evocative choral writing cap Johann Sebastian Bach’s timeless Magnificat in D major. Combining the full forces of Seraphic Fire and the Firebird Chamber Orchestra, the Magnificat puts the genius of Bach on full display. This crown jewel of the Baroque will be presented with Cantata 147, featuring Bach’s eternal chorale, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”
Founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley, professional chamber choir Seraphic Fire has garnered critical acclaim both locally and nationally. In an exciting crossover collaboration in 2004, Seraphic Fire was invited to record with international pop-star Shakira on a track for her album Oral Fixation II, which ultimately went Platinum. Seraphic Fire has released four CD recordings to date and will release a fifth next year to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. In September of 2007, The John S. & James L. Knight Foundation awarded a grant to Seraphic Fire for the formation of a new chamber orchestra.
