SynopsisBill Hirschman of Florida Theatre On Stage calls it "triumphant" and Christine Dolen of the Miami Herald says it's "riveting and compelling". Directed by Associate Artistic Director Michael Leeds, Dan Clancy's The Timekeepers is the gripping story of an introverted Jewish prisoner who keeps himself alive by repairing watches in Sachsenhausen concentration camp and an extroverted gay hustler willing to do whatever it takes to survive. Both men find they have knowledge than can help the other and a love of opera brings them together as they prepare for a visit from the Red Cross that they hope will save them. However, their underlying anti-semitism and homophobic prejudices threaten their partnership and a fitting operatic ending allows their humanity to triumph.
Island City Stage is a professional regional theatre that produces plays and musicals that explore the values, history, issues and humor that are relevant to the LGBT and Progressive communities.
