SIMPLE GIFTS
Performing at Seraphic Fire-First United Methodist Church (Oct 19 - Oct 19)
Synopsis
“‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free.” These powerful words from the Shaker hymn Simple Gifts inspired Aaron Copland to write his most memorable work: Appalachian Spring. With beautiful sincerity, these hymns are a direct link to America’s early history and an inspiration for composers over the ages. Seraphic Fire opens its 11th Season with a celebration of refreshingly simple Americana, with music from the Shaker tradition, as well as Copland, Samuel Barber, Morten Lauridsen, and others. The earnest joy of this music is the perfect departure point for an incredible season.
