Rebeca Sosa Theater

Description

As Miami Springs has grown and developed since being settled in the early 1920’s, so too has citizen demand and expectation for recreational and cultural facilities. In April of 2010 our city was proud to cut the ribbon on our beautiful new Community Center, complete with with a flexible theater space and appropriate support areas to accommodate an audience of up to 220 people, depending on the configuration. This “black box” theater, christened the Rebeca Sosa Theater, has been in almost continuous use since its opening. Many theatrical, school, film and music performances, a summer camp, and civic and community meetings have already taken place in it.

Our intention is that the new Rebeca Sosa Theater will become a critical cultural asset to our quality of life, a source of pride and a focal point for our community for years to come!

The theater is located in the new Community Center, a highly visible landmark, designed in the Pueblo Mission Revival style characteristic of our community. It is located “in the heart of it all” at 1401 Westward Drive, a main thoroughfare that is serviced by public bus routes. It is about 10 blocks from our historic Miami Springs downtown business area and the many restaurants and shops both in that area and along nearby NW 36th Street.

The Sosa Theater is a municipal performing arts facility of the City of Miami Springs, managed and operated by our community theater, The Pelican Playhouse, a 501 (c)(3) organization. In addition to a longstanding partnership with the City, these community members volunteer countless hours for the benefit of cultural programming in Miami Springs. For rental information please call 305.884.6804, or contact rwakefield@pelicanplayhouse.org
