The South Broward High School drama department was awarded many top honors in 2012. Their extensive list of accomplishments started at The Florida Theater Conference, where their one act play received straight superior ratings, and KiDane Kelati received the best supporting actor of the entire state festival. The first musical production of the year, entitled Next to Normal, was phenomenally received, and was selected for an exclusive performance at the State Thespian Festival in Tampa. At the district individual events competition, the troupe received a record 18 superiors, which included a jaw-dropping two "critic's choice" selections. In addition, one piece was selected as the best "critic's choice" in the entire district, and received the honor of performing in the opening showcase of the state competition for an audience of 7500 people. Finally, at the district one act competition, the one act play entitled The Pillowman, received straight superiors and was selected to also perform at the state festival. This is the second year in a row that South Broward has received this honor.
